Alexis Miller, Lewisville, was named Region 11’s 2020 Elementary Teacher of the Year. She began her education career in 2013 with the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program before moving to Uplift Education charter school in Dallas. In 2015, she began teaching first grade at Southridge in Lewisville ISD. She is a part of the district social studies curriculum writing team and mentors her fellow teachers. A psychology major at UNT, she earned a master’s degree in health administration from the UNT Health Science Center. She was a member of the Zeta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and vice president of Pan-Hellenic Council. She worked in health care administration before transitioning to education after participating in a summer literacy program. She is currently a student in the College of Education’s principal certification program.
