Suzanne Schirrman McWhorter VanStryland, Denton, professor of business administration
from 1958 to 1983, died Feb. 28. She was reported to be the first woman in the country
to earn a doctorate in finance, from Ohio State University in 1957. While at North
Texas, she also was a consulting technical editor for Holt Rinehart and Random House
publishers. In 1970, she was appointed to the Governor’s Commission on the Status
of Women in Texas and served on the subcommittee that wrote the women’s rights amendment
to the Texas constitution. Her first husband was Paul McWhorter, Professor Emeritus
of business administration, who died in 1997.
