Nicknamed “Tinker,” R.C. graduated with a degree in finance in 1952. While at North Texas, he met his future spouse, Betty Jane Harbison (’53). They married the day after she graduated. In 1953, R.C. was drafted by the U.S. Army and arrived in Korea the day before the war ended. He spent two years there as a federal mail clerk and returned to civilian life in 1954. R.C. went on to pursue a career in banking in the Houston area and took great satisfaction in his role as someone who could help families. He also became a deacon and then an elder in the League City Church of Christ and helped manage the church’s finances. After Betty died in 2015 and he lost his home during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, R.C. embraced his move to assisted living and continued to support his friends, family and grandchildren in any way he could.
