Mike Amador Jr., 89, of Corinth, died March 28. He retired from the UNT Police Department after 42 years of service.
A 1955 graduate of Wichita Falls High School, he began his military service in June 1954 with the Texas Army National Guard. He served on active duty with the 49th Armored Division during the Berlin Crisis of 1961 and joined the 4th Missile Battalion at the Nike Missile Base in Denton in 1963, as part of the 132nd Artillery Division, where he served until the base closed in 1968.
His dedication to service continued when he joined the North Texas Police Department in December 1969, where he earned his Master Police Officer License and rose to the rank of captain.
Mike loved golf, working in his garden and dancing with Yolanda — his wife of 66 years — on Friday nights at the Denton Senior Center. He also was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Mean Green football fan, and loved sharing ice cream with his grandchildren.
