Maxine Thornton Reese (’61, ’67 M.Ed.), 86, of Dallas, died Aug. 15. Among the first Black students to attend North Texas in the 1950s, she earned her doctoral degree from Texas A&M University at Commerce in 1982 and served in various roles, from teacher to principal, in the Dallas ISD. She worked as a recruiter for UNT Dallas from 2007 to 2009. She also was active in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees and on the Dallas City Council from 1999 to 2007. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta.
