June Harris Buhler, 96, Professor Emerita of education who taught at North Texas from 1973 to 2000, died Feb. 24, 2025.

She attended Texarkana Junior College, where she acted in theater productions. She also was an accomplished pianist and later completed her bachelor's degree at Texas Christian University.

She taught briefly in Texarkana, then married and moved to Shreveport where she taught fifth grade and worked as a librarian for many years. Continuing her education while teaching, she earned a master's in education from the University of Arkansas through summer courses, later taking a sabbatical year to earn her doctorate in education.

In the 1970s, she moved to Texas, where she joined the faculty at North Texas, teaching in the College of Education and leaving a lasting legacy in the field of education. She co-edited the book Physical Health for Educators, examining the effects of fatigue on teachers, and served on the Faculty Senate Committee on the Status of Women and the Faculty Commons Committee.

After retiring, June relocated to Tyler to be close to her daughter's family and became an active member of the First Christian Church. Her love for children's literature was evident throughout her life, as she often engaged her students in creative book activities and read many of her favorite books to her grandchildren.
