An elementary education major, she worked as a fifth-grade teacher in Fort Worth and earned a master’s degree at Peabody College (now part of Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was a Chilton Society member and a supporter of the College of Education at UNT, where she established the Jean Finnie Casson Endowed Scholarship. She will be remembered for her keen intellect, quick wit and encyclopedic memory.
