Jana Dean Fleming, 68, a lifelong resident of Sanger who worked at UNT for more than 30 years, died Jan. 30, 2026. She went from working as a part-time student assistant in the Department of Secondary Education in 1975 while attending classes, to retiring as the secretary of the UNT System Board of Regents and assistant to the dean of the College of Engineering in 2009. In between, she also worked in Human Resources and as an assistant to the dean of the College of Education, the provost and the chancellor — and she returned to work at UNT in several roles after retiring.
She is remembered by her friends, family and co-workers for her warm presence and strong faith. Survivors include daughter Dana Duke (’07), senior executive assistant in UNT’s Division of Strategic Educational Alliances.
