He served as a football coach for 18 years — leading Columbia High in West Columbia to five district championships and an appearance in the state finals — until his retirement in 1981. He previously served as head coach of the El Campo for seven years, reaching the state finals in 1967. He was named Brazoria County Coach of the Year twice and has received every major honor in the Texas High School Coaches Association, including induction to its Hall of Fame and serving as its president. In 2020, Columbia Brazoria ISD named the school's fieldhouse in his honor. He was married to the late Ellen Mae Sikora (’55) for 73 years. They met at North Texas, where she was a Zeta Tau Alpha and Yucca Beauty, while Jack was a member of the Talons, which became a Kappa Alpha chapter.
