After earning a business degree from North Texas State College and meeting his wife, Judy, at the Campus Theater, Gene began working for Moore Building Products in 1956. The business expanded into building swimming pools, and he bought it in 1963, also opening Gohlke Pool Supply and later Gohlke Custom Pools with his son Matt, who now owns and operates Gohlke Pools. The family was inducted into the UNT Family Business Hall of Fame in 2017. Gene closed the building products business and retired in 2018. Having spent more than 70 years living in Denton, he was a beloved community member, serving in the Chamber of Commerce, Homebuilders Association, Quarterback Club, the Evening Optimist Club and the First Christian Church.</main-content></item>
