Cheryl Kay Gillespie (’80), Denton. Cheryl was a longtime supporter of the College of Music. She and her husband of 57 years, James E. Gillespie Jr., Professor Emeritus of clarinet, established the James E. Gillespie Clarinet Scholarship to support future generations of musicians. She was a member of the McConnell Society and the 1890 Society. A talented singer, Cheryl earned a master’s degree in vocal pedagogy from Indiana University and later developed an interest in computer science, earning a master’s degree from what is now the G. Brint Ryan College of Business. She worked for ARCO and American Airlines. In her memory, the family has requested that donations be made to the scholarship fund.
