He attended North Texas from 1949 to 1952, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Tau. He was a biology teacher in Fort Worth ISD, where a science scholarship was named for him. He also maintained a herd of Angus cattle on his family’s land in Wise County for more than 100 years. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He is survived by his wife Patty Thurmond Van Meter (’53, ’56 M.Ed.).  </main-content></item>
