Anurup Reddy Koduru (’26 M.S.), 22, of Denton, who had just received his master’s degree in computer science and worked as a student public safety officer for the UNT Police Department, died May 29, 2026. He had saved three friends from drowning near Toledo Bend Dam on the Texas-Louisiana border when he became entangled in fishing wire. He earned his bachelor’s degree in his native India. While at UNT, he was a member of the Graduate Student Council and Indian Student Association. He participated in hackathons, winning first place in several of them. As a public safety officer, he walked the UNT campus, keeping an eye out to help police identify any safety issues to address. His brother Ashrith Reddy Koduru (’25 M.S.) also is a UNT alum.
