A junior in the College of Health and Public Service, he served in the U.S. Army for five years as a medic stationed in Texas and was deployed to Iraq. He later earned an associate degree at Austin Community College and hoped to pursue a career in social work. Devoted to his nephews, Andrew loved cats, enjoyed reading and debating books, playing chess and other games, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
