Through the Lenses of Ray Bankston and Don Shugart: Horse Photos from the University
of North Texas Libraries, edited by writer and photographer Sally Harrison, showcases 40 years of photography
that captures the culture and lifestyle of horse ranching and cutting horse events
in the North Texas region. The photos come from UNT's collection of almost 6,000 prints
and negatives by the two horse industry photographers. Bankston began working as a
photographer in the 1960s, and Shugart began photographing horses in 1972 for the
National Cutting Horse Association.
