Sandra Wixson ('75, '85 Ph.D.)

I came to UNT at the age of 33 as a junior after leaving Oklahoma State University in 1960 to get married. I had three daughters, and when my youngest was in first grade, I decided to get my bachelor's degree in psychology. It was 1973.

1975 was the first year that it was possible to go directly for the doctorate. I finished my coursework four years later, but as a single mom, it took me six more years to complete my research in lieu of a thesis and my dissertation. I walked the commencement stage proudly in 1985.

I received my license as a clinical psychologist in 1987, and I have enjoyed a wonderful career. I am now 84 years old, and I still have a part-time private practice.

I will always be grateful to UNT and my dissertation chairman, Dr. Joe Doster, for the wonderful education and fellowship I enjoyed so much.
