William Beryl West (M.Ed., ’69 Ed.D.), Murfreesboro, Tenn. :: celebrated his 60th anniversary as a preacher last fall. He was licensed to preach by the First Baptist Church of Borger in 1949 and ordained two years later. Now pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, he has served as a pastor and in interim and supply positions for more than 50 years in Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist and community churches. He retired after 40 years as a professor of psychology from Middle Tennessee State University, where he was named RBJ Campbell Distinguished Professor and Professor Emeritus. He is working on a 35-year follow-up study on drug, alcohol and tobacco use by college students and is revising his book on successfully surviving divorce. The California Graduate School of Theology granted him an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree in 1984. He taught in China, supervising summer exchange teachers, and was a support psychologist for the Chinese Olympic Training Center. He also helped establish an exchange program with Russia. He has two sons and in 2004 married Linda Marlin Lynch, who has one son.
