Matthews’ Stories

News paper story reporting on the 6,666th student Your fall North Texan article on President J.C. Matthews (’25) reminded me of the “15 minutes of fame” I had with him in 1958. When registering, I was asked to stand by, and in a few minutes Dr. Matthews arrived with a photographer. As you can see from the photo, I was the 6,666th student to register that semester (50 years earlier, President W.H. Bruce had greeted the 666th registrant).

I left teaching in 1961 and entered the field of computer science. I retired in 1997 after more than 30 years of support to NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
