Marshall Finalist

Marcelo Ostria ('10, '11), right, was one of 160 U.S. finalists for the 2012 Marshall Scholarships, which are among the most prestigious postgraduate scholarships available to Americans, funding two years of study in the United Kingdom. At UNT, his mentors were Emile Sahliyeh, director of the international studies program and professor of Middle East studies, middle, and James Duban, director of the Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarships, left.

As a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, Ostria studied in Chile and conducted research on child labor and poverty. Ostria's leadership and dedication to public service have earned him numerous UNICEF awards. He created the UNICEF student organization at UNT in spring 2008 to help children around the world. Ostria was an Honors College student at UNT, earning his bachelor's degrees in political science and international studies.
