James Walter Stoneham

James Walter Stoneham (’55), San Antonio :: He was known in San Antonio during the 1970s for his Research & Planning Council studies exposing inequity in residential property taxation — studies that were used to reform the Texas property tax system. He was chief appraiser at Bexar Appraisal District from 1988 to 1997. He was active in the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts and Texas Association of Assessing Officers. He received TAAD’s Earl Luna award in 1995, and TAAO established a scholarship program in his name. He achieved the highest designation Toastmasters International offered, and he was active in the International Torch Club. His passion was running with the San Antonio Roadrunners. He completed 33 marathons and one triathlon.
