2017 Grammy Playlist

UNT alumni won big at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in February -- eight awards in eight categories. Read about all the talented alumni and others in the UNT family who won or were nominated for Grammy's and listen below to a few of the winners.

Maren Morris – "My Church"

Morris, who attended UNT in 2010, won Best Country Vocal Performance for this gospel-tinged song that praises the power of music.

 

Snarky Puppy – Culcha Vulcha

The band, which formed at UNT, took home its third Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. Its members who are UNT alumni include Michael League, Nate Werth, Justin Stanton ('10 M.M.), Bob Lanzetti ('04), Harold "Shaun" Martin ('01), Mike Maher ('04), Chris Bullock, Chris McQueen ('06) and Jay Jennings. Tracks include "Tarova," which NPR described as "South Asian percussion meets Southern amplitude."

Michael Daugherty

Daugherty ('76) won in the categories of Best Contemporary Classical Composition, Classical Instrumental Solo and Classical Compendium for his album Daugherty: Tales of Hemingway. Inspired by the novels written by Ernest Hemingway, its works include "For Whom the Bell Tolls."
