Theodore Albrecht (M.M., ’73, M.S. ’75 Ph.D.), Kent, Ohio :: has published Beethoven’s Conversation Books, a translation of the composer’s notebooks that he used to communicate after he began losing his hearing in 1798. Beethoven’s acquaintances wrote their side of the conversation in the notebook, and he would read and reply orally. Many attempts have been made to translate these works but Albrecht’s translations are the first to be successful. Albrecht spent 20 summers in Vienna researching the booklets, which will be published in 12 volumes. Albrecht is a professor of musicology at Kent State University and was named a UNT College of Music Distinguished Alumnus in 1999.
