Richard Menchaca ('65 M.Ed.), Irving :: was honored in August for 50 years of service at El Centro College, where he is director of career advancement. Menchaca is the publisher of Si magazine and Hispanic Life magazine and has published a novel, Guardian Angel, following a track coach who turns a young track member's life around from troubled youth to state champion. He is a real estate investor and has funded or co-funded several clinics, funds and leagues in Dallas including DAMAS FE and Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic. Menchaca acheived many high honors and awards, including being presented an Olympic pin, recieving the High Spirited Citizens award from the city of Irving, and being named Educator of the Year by several different publications. He was a star track athlete at North Texas from 1958 to 1962, playing under Pop Warner. He has been inducted to the UNT Athletic Hall of Fame and the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame. He is a member of the Geezles.
