Philip EspeStaff Sergeant Philip Espe (M.S.), Washington, D.C., joined "The President's Own" United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C., in May – combining his careers in music and library sciences. A musician since age 5, he has earned several music degrees and has worked as a conducting teaching artist for the People’s Music School in Chicago; a collaborator for the Kennedy Center’s Turnaround Arts program; conductor for the D.C. Youth Orchestra Program; music director for the NIH Community Orchestra in Maryland; and library associate for youth and family services for the D.C. Public Library. As the Marine Band librarian, his duties include preparing music for performances, serving as music acquisition specialist and maintaining the music library and historic archives.
