2003Melanie Gibson (M.S.), Fort Worth, wrote the memoir Kicking and Screaming: A Memoir of Madness and Martial Arts about how she overcame her struggles with mental illness through practicing taekwondo, which she studied as a child and took up again as an adult.
“Through taekwondo (and many ups and downs along the way), I learned to harness my anxiety, find confidence and successfully test for black belt,” she says.
She has worked in the healthcare industry since 2004, with roles as a hospital librarian, corporate trainer and learning designer.
