James Pawelczyk (Ph.D.), University Park, Pennsylvania, was named a new member of the board of directors for the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS), which manages the International Space Station. The former astronaut previously assisted in forming U.S. space life sciences strategy through the National Academy’s Committee on Biological and Physical Sciences in Space, Space Studies Board; Committee on Aerospace Medicine and the Medicine of Extreme Environments; and NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations Research Committee. He currently serves as an associate professor of physiology and kinesiology at Pennsylvania State University and is the director of the dual-title Ph.D. program in clinical and translational sciences.
