Ono (pictured) as president of the University of Michigan, his undergraduate alma mater. He has represented UNT at other inaugurations, including a prior one at Michigan. He also was a delegate at the inauguration of Gretchen Bataille as president of UNT, representing Duquesne University, where he earned his J.D. In 2010, he attended the inauguration of fellow UNT alumnus Richard S. Rafes ('90 Ph.D.) as president of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

After Dr. Freeman completed his Ph.D. under the supervision of the late Dr. Howard W. Smith, Jr., the former vice president for academic affairs and acting president, he worked at several positions in the institutional research division at the University of Mississippi from 1988 to 1992. In 1992, he joined Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh (now UPMC Mercy) -- first as a medical education specialist, then as director of medical education and research, and later as executive director of academic affairs. In 2008, he joined the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine as vice president for its location in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, LECOM at Seton Hill. He completed his service as vice president this past spring and is now Professor Emeritus and chair of the Institutional Review Board.
