Donald H. Achziger (’63 M.Ed.), Hideaway, is the namesake of a new school in the Mesquite ISD. The Don Achziger Elementary School was dedicated Sept. 20. Don began teaching math at the district’s Wilkinson Middle School in 1962 and worked as assistant principal of the school, as registrar at Mesquite High School and as principal at Agnew Middle School, West Mesquite High School and Mesquite High School. He also served at the central office as an instructional officer and assistant superintendent for instruction, retiring in 1997 as the associate superintendent for business services. He and his wife, Mary Torrence Achziger (’63), have two children and five grandchildren.
