’Fessor Floyd Graham held the first tryouts for his 25-piece ensemble. … Alumnus Guinn Williams Jr., son of a U.S. senator, was featured in the 1932 film The Great Meadow, based on a best-selling book about Kentucky pioneers. … Japanese author, novelist, scholar, orator and politician Yusuke Tsurumi visited North Texas to speak on “Japan on the Crossroads.” …German, French, English and American gas masks and helmets from World War I were displayed in the university’s museum, laid side by side so students could compare them. A wooden shoe from Holland was also donated to the university museum; it was made of Yew wood and brought to the U.S. during World War I.
