Owens, receiving clerk in purchasing and payment services
at UNT, holds his daughter, DaLayna, also known as Baby Scrappy,
at the annual UNT Boo Bash Oct. 29. DaLayna’s costume
of Baby Scrappy hatching from his shell won first place in
the category for contestants younger than 5 years old. It
took four days for her mother, DaLisa Owens, to make her costume.

Fans
tore down the goalpost after the Mean Green’s 38-27
victory over New Mexico State Nov. 16. The win clinched the
2002 Sun Belt Conference championship and brought North Texas
its second consecutive New Orleans Bowl invitation.
