*Edward Smith III, Dallas, was named Distinguished Alumnus for the Private Practice of Law by the Southern Methodist University Law School for 2005-06. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of UNT in 1992.

'65
Sam Curry, Mineola, was honored March 21 by the Mineola Chamber of Commerce with the annual Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 39 years of community service to the area. On the same evening, Sam and his wife, Joyce McClearin Curry (’68), were honored with the annual Humanitarian Award for service to a program that gathers food and other items for the needy.

'67
Mary Boner Creighton, Mineral Wells, has completed her sixth year as director of public relations for the Mineral Wells ISD after working in education as teacher, supervisor and administrator for 30 years.

Sharyl Sprinkel Westcott, Tacoma, Wash., completed her master’s degree in counseling psychology from Chapman University in Fort Lewis, Wash., in October. She has been a volunteer counselor for the older adults program at Good Samaritan Behavioral Health in Puyallup for five years. She worked in Alaska for 30 years, first as a teacher for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later for a health consortium serving Alaska natives and American Indians.

'69
John Hughes Owens, San Antonio, became chief financial officer of the La Porte ISD in March. He served most recently as associate superintendent for business and chief financial officer for the Judson ISD in San Antonio.
