North Texas Hoopla
Frances Pond McMullen ('47) was a student at North Texas in the 1940s, Mae McRae Bruce and Billie Hailey Tatom attended in the early '50s, and Kay Wylie Martin ('60) came later that decade. The women didn't know each other at North Texas, but they met some 40 years later as members of Hilltop Lakes' Texas Laureate Eta Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. And now they're spreading the word about their alma mater. In October the four presented a program about North Texas to their sorority, which included a sample of the famous Union Coffee Cake. "With our green North Texas T-shirts on, our plan was to impress our audience with how great North Texas is," Mae says. "The coffee cake came out delicious and our ladies loved all the hoopla of food and pom-poms. We even led a few cheers, which they actually yelled with us."
