North Texas Exes News

The North Texas Exes celebrated the start of construction on their Alumni Center, on the ground floor of the Gateway Center, July 17. UNT President Norval Pohl (left), Denton Mayor Euline Brock ('74 Ph.D.) and Joe Cannon ('56), president of the Exes, were among the dignitaries in attendance. The Exes will host alumni receptions at the center before and after university events — the first was Sept. 6 before the UNT-Baylor football game. The new alumni home offers former students a place to reminisce over North Texas memorabilia and socialize with old college professors and classmates. Check out the Homecoming activities at the center.

In 2004, UNT will mark the 50th anniversary of its desegregation with a yearlong observance, 50 Years of Progress and Opportunity, 1954-2004. Plans include a musical gala, alumni and Homecoming gatherings, a halftime celebration at a football game, speakers, exhibitions and an issue of The North Texan featuring the subject.

To find out more about events planned, sign up for updates, share memories and photos or suggest names of people you feel should be included in the observance, go to www.unt.edu/50yearsofprogress.
