Community news

AS PRESIDENT AND PUBLIC OF THE DALLAS POST TRIBUNE, one of the state's leading weekly community newspapers, Theodore Lee remains true to his life's work as an educator.

By producing a community newspaper that is intended to inform and enhance Dallas' black community, especially its youths, Lee recognizes his paper also fills another purpose.

The Post Tribune and other papers in the black media not only report the news, but also legitimize it.

"In the black community, there is a knowledge that our history has always been told by someone else. So when we tell it ourselves, it seems more correct," he says. "It's not necessarily the case that the news in a black paper is more true, but in our eyes it is more authentic."
