I read yesterday that the bonfire was cancelled. Why are you asking me to show up and watch it?

The 50-plus year tradition of UNT’s Homecoming Bonfire will continue as planned at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Alumni Pavilion, 1251 S. Bonnie Brae St.

Given the current lack of precipitation and weather, UNT did evaluate conditions for the bonfire. The university worked with the City of Denton to determine the safest way to hold the event.

As usual, City of Denton fire services will be on hand at the bonfire as a proactive safety measure.

UNT recognizes the importance of the bonfire tradition to students, alumni and the entire university community, especially in light of UNT’s 125th anniversary. The UNT Talons spirit group builds the bonfire each year.

All other Homecoming related events, including the Spirit March, Pep Rally and Parade, will also happen as planned.
