Wayne (’68 M.S.) and Sherry (’65, ’80 M.S.) Hopkins, Dallas :: toured the Super Pit and Apogee Stadium in April, when they visited Spiriki, the bronze eagle that the Geezles fraternity commissioned. When Spiriki was dedicated in 2011, Wayne — a member of the Geezles — was unable to go due to knee surgery. “It was a wonderful day and we were very excited to share it with our children and grandchildren,” Sherry says. Wayne was a member of the basketball team from 1960 to 1964. He and Sherry met in 1962 and were married after graduation. Wayne also saw his name on the dedication plaque and his late brother Fred Hopkins’ (’56) name on the UNT Athletics Hall of Fame plaque. Fred, who played basketball in the mid-1950s, is among UNT's all-time leading scorers.
