Student receives presidential honor

Marcelo OstriaFor the second year in a row, Marcelo Ostria, a senior international studies and political science major, was honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the White House. Ostria was nominated for the honor by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF for his dedicated service to children around the world. The award recognizes individuals, groups and families for demonstrating exemplary citizenship through volunteering and inspiring others to volunteer.

A student in UNT’s Honors College, Ostria serves as president of UNT UNICEF and was a finalist for a Harry S. Truman Scholarship. He also was selected to the 2009 All-USA College Academic Third Team by USA Today, becoming the first UNT undergraduate selected by the newspaper to a college academic team.
