UNT hosts South Asia Peace Conference

The ambassadors to the U.S. from Afghanistan and Pakistan spoke on campus in November about peace and democracy in their countries as part of UNT's first South Asia Peace Conference.

Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, Afghanistan's ambassador to the U.S., discussed "Prospects of Peace in Afghanistan after the U.S. Withdrawal," and Husain Haqqani, Pakistan's ambassador to the U.S., discussed "Democracy in the Age of Terrorism: The Role of Pakistan in Establishing Peace in South Asia." Other speakers included Sandeep Pandey, an internationally known peace activist from India, and Arvind Singhal, the Samuel Shirley and Edna Holt Marston Endowed Professor of Communication at the University of Texas at El Paso.
