Norma JonesNorma Jones (M.S.), Lake Bridgeport :: received her Ph.D. in communication and information at Kent State University in May. Her dissertation titled “Danica and Drivers, Start Your Engines!” focused on race driver Danica Patrick’s entry into NASCAR. While at Kent State, she won two major university-wide awards — the David B. Smith award for exceptional scholarship and teaching and the University Fellowship. She has co-edited three anthologies: Heroines of Film and Television: Portrayals in Popular Culture; Heroines of Comic Books and Literature: Portrayals in Popular Culture; and Aging Heroes: Growing Old in Popular Culture. She is a series editor at Rowman & Littlefield publishers, where she focuses on books on sporting icons. She wants to continue writing and editing books centered on the concept of heroes and heroines in popular culture.
