Celebrating Earth Week

From Dumpster diving and tree plantings to free concerts and clean-up projects, the UNT community celebrated the environment and all things green this Earth Week.

In the spirit of promoting environmental responsibility and stewardship, UNT’s Earth Day celebrations extended to a full week of activities in April as part of the university’s “We Mean Green” campaign. This year marked the 39th national anniversary of Earth Day. Events spanned speakers discussing climate change and energy development, student artistic performances interpreting the natural world, free concerts, a moonlight tree planting and waste audits from a Dumpster dive. Sponsored by UNT’s University Program Council, the North Texas Energy and Environment Club and other campus departments, Earth Week brought campus and community groups together to generate excitement about reducing, reusing and recycling to help reduce Denton’s carbon footprint.
