  • Have you heard the buzz? UNT is the first university in Texas to be named a Bee Campus USA, meaning we've created a bee-friendly campus. Bee Campus USA is a sustainability organization focused on supporting pollinator species populations, which are declining rapidly across the globe. UNT works to ensure that campus greenspaces are friendly to pollinators and hosts campus events to raise awareness of the importance of these species.

  • Journalism School wins diversity award. UNT's Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism received the 2016 Equity and Diversity Award from the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication — the only university in the nation to receive the award —- for its commitment to increasing the enrollment and retention of students of color and hiring more diverse faculty.

  • Beauty queen's power of pink. A senior majoring in recreation, event and sport management, Taylor Ashworth was crowned Miss Texas International in April in Dallas. She competed against young women from all over the state and went on to compete in the Miss International Pageant in July in Jacksonville, Fla. After seeing several family members successfully battle cancer, and others lose their battles, she is promoting her platform, "The Power of Pink," to emphasize the importance of early detection of breast cancer through self-examination and mammograms.
