Bob St. John

Bob St. John (’60), Winnsboro :: He was a semi-pro baseball player before becoming a police reporter for the San Angelo Standard Times. He then moved into sports writing, working for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal before becoming a Dallas Morning News columnist and sports writer. He covered the Dallas Cowboys for 12 years. He wrote numerous books about Texas sports icons – including co-writing Roger Staubach’s autobiography Staubach: First Down, Lifetime to Go – and published several compilations of his columns from the sports and metropolitan sections. He retired in 2000. He received UNT’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1986. He also was interested in literature and loved Hemingway.
