Photo of Ryan CameronRyan Cameron, DeSoto, directed the short film Forks in the Road, which follows a young couple in the South during a date night at a local restaurant. The film was accepted in the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and the Sistas Are Doin’ It For Themselves Short Film Showcase, and it was a semifinalist in the Bassett House Pictures short film competition. Ryan works as video production assistant for the office of E-Learning at Dallas College and freelances for reality TV and narrative film sets in production and art department positions. While at UNT, Ryan was a member of KNTU, NTTV Black Film Club and National Society of Leadership and Success. Her favorite campus memory occurred when rapper/actor Common came to speak on campus. “After his lecture we raced around campus to find him so we could get a picture,” she says. “We saw a black Escalade at the Gateway Center. We knew that was his car service, so we waited outside the building for an hour in the cold. He finally came out, but had security with him. We thought we were going to get tackled to the ground, but he was so nice. He took a picture with us and gave us hugs.”
