Holly Lakatos (M.S.), Chicago, Ill., received the “Spirit of Law Librarianship” award for her work with the Chicago Association of Law Libraries’ Community Service Committee.

Melanie Medina, Flower Mound, accepted a position as associate editor of Promotional Products Business magazine in Irving. She and her husband, Mario, relocated to Flower Mound from Marietta, Ga., where they lived for five years.

James Popejoy (D.M.A.), Grand Forks, N.D., director of bands and associate professor of music at the University of North Dakota, was honored as the 2006 Music Educator of the Year by the North Dakota Music Educators Association. His UND Wind Ensemble performed at the 2006 North Central Division conference of the College Band Directors National Association.

La’Taisha Stinnette, Lancaster, completed her M.B.A. degree with a major in management from the University of Phoenix in March. She also completed her teacher certification program. She’s now a second-grade teacher and says she is “loving every minute of it.”

John Woolley and Brett Allen (‘00), Fort Worth, opened a second Woolley’s Frozen Custard store in September. The original store, opened in 2003, is in Fort Worth, and the new location is in Hurst.

Shawna Stroud Burrowes and Chris Burrowes (’02), Richardson, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Kyndall Madison, in March. Also, Chris was promoted to branch manager of two Texans Credit Union locations.

Will Stacy, Little Elm, became the interactive services manager for the Dallas Mavericks in August. He creates and maintains the content on the Mavs web site and leads database marketing efforts.

Greg Walker and Jenny McCormack Walker (’02), Texarkana, welcomed a daughter, Ryan Kate Walker, in August.

*Kim Brown(’04 M.Ed.), Muenster, says she has been putting her emergency administration and planning degree to work. She ran the Gainesville American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina shelter, worked on the Disaster Action Team for the Texas grass fires as a shelter manager and conducted damage assessment for wind storms in Lindsay and Gainesville. In recognition of her service, she was inducted into the Clara Barton Society, named the Board of Directors Volunteer of the Year for the Texoma chapter and received a resolution from Cooke County.

Katinka See and Kevin Sweet (’02), Bella Vista, Ark., were married in July in Eureka Springs, Ark. They both work for Wal-Mart Corp., where Kevin develops real estate and Katinka develops financial service products.

Justin James and Emily Stewart James (’00), Lewisville, welcomed their second daughter, Lillian Angelina, in June.

Janine Kraus (M.Ed., ’06 Ph.D.), Fort Worth, is director of student programs and young alumni for Texas Christian University’s advancement office. She earned her Ph.D. in higher education from UNT in August.

Janet Johnson (M.A.), Garland, is a senior lecturer in communications at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Gissela Veloz, Arlington, is working with Catapult Online, a provider of supplemental educational services and a part of Educate Inc. She is its Dallas-Fort Worth community manager. Working with her is Shekeira Gillis (’04), who is a community liaison for Catapult Online.

Deb Igoe (M.S.), Bismarck, N.D., was promoted to director of the new Civil Rights Division of the North Dakota Department of Transportation. She formerly served as the civil rights program manager in NDDOT’s Office of Operations and has more than 27 years of service with NDDOT.
