Eagle sketches

These sketches by North Texas student Gladys Bass contributed to North Texas’ first copyrighted eagle design in 1923. Gladys married Roy Whisenhunt, a North Texas football letterman who received one of the first athletic awards based on the design. Gladys’s nephew, Gene Gallien, sent the sketches to the university this summer.

He says that after leaving North Texas, the Whisenhunts taught in Kerrville and Gladys later became a senior buyer for the department store Stix, Baer and Fuller in St. Louis. The couple retired to Hallsville in 1967 where they lived until their deaths.
