Making An Impression

DURING HIS 20 YEARS AT UNT, CHANELOR HURLEY has gained the respect of legislators, state officials, community and business leaders, alumni, faculty, staff and students alike. Here are a few of their observations about the now full-time chancellor of the UNT System:

“His determination and persuasiveness improved UNT’s image in public perceptions and in the eyes of state officials.”

Don Brown, Texas Higher Education commissioner

“He is an able and persuasive advocate for UNT. I can’t say too many nice things about him because I still have to work with him. In fact, now I expect I’ll be seeing him more than ever.”

Texas Sen. Bill Ratliff

“He is a planner who always wants to anticipate the consequences of an action. ...Often antagonism exists between faculty leaders and administrators. But one thing I always appreciated about Dr. Hurley is that his door was open to Senate chairs.”

Regents Professor Charldean Newell (’60, ’62 M.A.), former special assistant for planning and former chair of the Faculty Senate

“As long as I have known them, he and Mrs. Hurley have been tireless in their efforts to represent the university in all kinds of settings.”

Robert L. Herchert, president and CEO of Freese and Nichols in Fort Worth

“Many of the alumni I had the opportunity to work with expressed great admiration and respect for the way he guided UNT. ”

UNT Regent Marjorie Craft (’68), past president of the NorthTexas Exes
