Kathryn J. Everest ('90 M.Ed.), Arlington, was honored as a 2006 "Woman of Influence" in the Fort Worth Business Press' Great Women of Texas celebration in January 2007. She also received state recognition as the Texas School Counselor Association's Counselor Supervisor of the Year for 2006. She is the program coordinator of guidance and counseling for the Fort Worth ISD and speaks to education, business and industry professionals through her company, the Everest Edge.

'84
Sonya Calooy, Euless, was contracted last year by Royal Dutch Shell to serve as learning designer for Shell's Finance in Projects academy initiative. She also launched an advertising and graphic design services firm, Laughing Hawk Creative. In November, the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas named her the "American Indian Business Individual of the Year." She earned a master of arts in education degree from the University of Phoenix in 2004.

Donna Gail Shaw (Ph.D.), Anchorage, Alaska, has endowed a scholarship through the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society. She served as president of the Alpha Iota chapter at North Texas and founded a chapter at the University of Alaska at Anchorage, where she is a professor and associate dean for student and curriculum affairs. She served as a vice president on the international Kappa Delta Pi executive council from 1998 to 2000.

'86
Nancy Mandell, Plano, is the founder of DANISH, the Dallas Asperger Network. She runs a support group and says she is the proud mom of a 19-year-old son diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. Her 21-year-old daughter is attending UNT.

'87
Susan Lyle, Plano, married "the love of her life," Harkishan Dodia, in April 2006. She passed the Project Management Professional exam in August and in September started a new position as a project manager with Quadrem, a global provider of e-business solutions.

'88
Greg Bicknell ('93 M.Ed.), Fort Worth, has been appointed principal at Smithfield Elementary School. He served as an assistant principal in the Birdville ISD since 2001 and prior to that was a teacher and coach at Haltom High School and Watauga Middle School.

Darren Ryan ('88 M.Ed.), Lewisville, was named Lewisville High School's Teacher of the Year for the 2006-07 school year. He teaches advanced placement psychology and U.S. history. He has been teaching public school in Texas since his graduation from UNT, where he was a Meadows Foundation Education scholar.
