Browns and Rideouts

On Feb. 5, 1938, North Texas track twins Elmer ('38, '49 M.S.) and Delmer Brown ('39) and Wayne ('40) and Blaine Rideout ('40) set a world record in the indoor mile and seven-eighths medley relay at the Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden in New York.

Delmer Brown went on to coach at Texas A&M University at Commerce and Texas Tech University and was a trainer at Baylor University. He was also on the medical staff in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Elmer Brown was the trainer at Midwestern State University and Texas Christian University and was on the training staff at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. Both Browns are in the National Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame.

Wayne Rideout, who was an athletic trainer for more than 30 years at various Texas high schools, was elected to the Helms Foundation National Hall of Fame as a track coach and to the National Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame. Blaine Rideout worked as a football trainer for several universities, including North Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska. The Rideouts were elected to the NAIA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1955.

Both sets of twins are members of the UNT Athletic Hall of Fame.
