Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, named by Time magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, discussed Muslim women's rights and women's issues Feb. 20 on campus. Hirsi Ali is a former member of the Dutch parliament who has written two books and co-produced a controversial film about the role of women in Islamic society.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus visited campus Feb. 26-March 1 in conjunction with the North Texas Battle of the Bands. Jazz band Snarky Puppy produced a music video in the bus Feb. 26, which premiered that night in the Union Syndicate.

The observance of Black History Month on campus ended with the 18th annual African Heritage Banquet Feb. 26. The banquet included student dancers, traditional African attire and keynote speaker Eric Baker, a Radio One account executive and former student.

UNT was the only U.S. site for the Second International Indigenous Youth Conference on the Environment and Culture March 6 in a new collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on environmental issues and indigenous peoples. The videoconference also included students from Russia, Malaysia and Uganda.

Snowfall on the University of North Texas Campus

Winter gave Denton a parting shot in March, bringing snow twice in the first week. The second snowfall closed the university March 6-7 and kept cameras busy on campus. Check out the slideshow.
