Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot, award-winning sociologist from Harvard University, was the keynote speaker at UNT’s 14th annual Conference on Parent Education Feb. 9-10. She spoke on “The Essential Conversation: What Parents and Teachers Can Learn from Each Other,” also the title of one of her books.

Carl Leopold, plant physiologist at Cornell University and one of the nation’s leading experts on environmental ethics and ecological restoration, delivered lectures Feb. 16-17 as the guest of the UNT Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies. His father was Aldo Leopold, one of the early leaders of the American wilderness movement and the founder of the U.S. wildlife management system.

Saxophonist Pete Christlieb played with the UNT jazz faculty and composer Bill Holman directed the One O’Clock Lab Band in the Glenn E. Gomez International Artist Endowment for Jazz Studies Concert on Feb. 23. The two served as artists-in-residence at UNT during the week leading up to the concert.
